Calf / Ankles

This area of the body is the main engine of movement, these are the muscle responsible for propelling us along as we walk and adding stability to the knee and lower leg. These are made up of very strong and durable muscles, high levels of fatigue are a key factor therefor overuse injuries are less common. What this area is more affected by is trauma and misuse. Several `conditions` are documented where injuries to the shin can be explained, the most common is shin splints, although whether this is a phenomenon that actually exists is hard to say but this term does cover a wide range of conditions. Other issues can include compartment syndromes, this is fundamentally a condition where the metabolism of the shin compartment ceases to function properly because of a rise in the pressure within the shin, and ultimately this can be a serious condition
